Submitted by calyx (Aug 30, 2002)the sum of all men is zero!
farland's books are really mediocre - and that's the friendly way to describe it...
the writing style is dull and boring (but it helps the ones with insomnia, the characters in spite of their "endowments of wit" witless, the realms drab. one of the worst books, i've ever read. it bored me beyond believe.
if you want fantasy that has depth, complexity, passion, charecters that come alive, and - here's a concept- originality, try George R.R. Martin, C.J. Cherryh, Anne Bishop, Laurell K. Hamilton, Kate Forsyth or any one of a variety of truly imaginative scribes who make fantasy so vivid. Submitted by David M. Roberts (Jan 06, 2001)Absolutely wonderful. David Farland is a master at his craft, and shows his quality in writing in this book. I recommend this to almost any Fantasy/Science Fiction Fan, Read IT! Submitted by Rodney Powell (Jun 13, 1999)A sweeping fantasy epic. Farland transported us to a world of the Runelords. Runelords
are people who take endowements: brawn, agility, speed from people so they can help make them better
warriors and rulers.Runelords protect the people who give them endowments, called delicates.
Prince Gaborn is sent to neighboring kingdom to marry it's princess so he can forge a alliance between
his country and hers. He must stop the evil king Raj ahten who seeks to become Sum of all Men through
many endowments of strength and agility and rule the world. This novel is filled with scenes
of epic battles of armies, monsters and magic. Good men and women must make
do acts of evil for the greater good and warriors must obey orders that scar their very soul.
This novel is moving, powerful and very gripping and bodes well for future volumes in the series.
