As for the WOT it just doesn't cut it with this series. I do agree Robert J. has made a wonderful book in the Eye of the World, but it has slowly gone down when it finally hit rock bottom in his Winters Heart. That book was so boring I almost gave up on it. Make his Crossroads of Twillight will revitalize my interest but till then The Sword of Truth just outdoes anything R.J. has out. Not to mention I love how its not just power and strength that makes Richard so cool. Its his ability to understand things like what he gains from the temple of the winds understanding takes precidence in this series not just broot strength like R.J. WOT series is all about. When I first picked this book up I had never heard any reviews on the books. I had just finished reading Deborah Chester's Alien Chronicles and absolutly loved it. So after, I began reading Terry Goodkind. From the start I was drawn in. With every book the Characters become more indepth. I admit that when you first start off you dont know much about the Characters and theyt may seem shallow but over the course of the book you learn about them. And that is one of the greatest things of the book. You dont know everything about them from the first. So you go on the journey with them and are continualy learning new things. I would recomend this book to everyone. As for the sexual refrences...how can you have a fantasy book and be afraid to add real life issues and problems? You cant have censorship in fantasy. This book is by far one of the best books I ever read. You will find yourself totally caught up in the adventures of Richard, Kahlan, Zedd and co, experiancing their fear, love and compassion as if at first hand.
Overall a really entertaining read! Submitted by Dan Goss (Mar 22, 2002)I just finished the seventh book in the Sword of Truth series. I had a hard time putting the books down at the end of each night! So I got to bed quite late. Terry Goodkind has a way of making you become part of the cast of characters which are extremely well developed. He keeps the plot moving and is never boring. Lots of action. A bit gory at times but excellent story. He is very good at instilling his own belief system into his story. It's very obvious.
The seventh book however, threw me off a little. I was expecting the story to continue with the same cast but was surprised to find two new characters, never before mentioned in previous books dominate the entire book to the exclusion of all the main characters. It was a good book though and in the end kind of slid back in to the main plot. Highly recomended series. But, I've just started reading the WoT series, and like Sarah said, the SoT series is a lot like the WoT series, but anyway both those series have what I think all fantasy books should have. I started reading the SoT series about two years ago and finished Faith of the Fallen last year. I hope Goodkind keeps writing. because I will keep reading.
