I know he's accused of stealing ideas but even if that was true, what a lot of people fail to understand is that there's a LOT of work between a final product and the idea. This is valid in music, writing, game development, movies and probably many other domains I never dabbled into. I always crack a smile when someone tells me : Hey I have a really good game concept.. I wont tell it to you because I don't want people to steal my idea.. What should I do to make a game out of it? Ideas are cheap, it's the way they're told/expressed that matter. Submitted by Ed Norrington (Oct 29, 2001)I've read a huge amount of fantasy books over the years. Goodkind is gripping and emotional. You feel the pain, pleasure, and emotions of the characters. Excellent. Submitted by Emily (Sep 25, 2001)I read his first book because of how good I had heard it to be from reviews on this page. But I was appalled! He stole some of the most original ideas from other successful authors and just put them together in a very depressing and poorly written novel. They didn't even make the book any better! Another example from a "borrowed" idea from Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" is the magic collar that, once put on, you can't take of yourself or you experience great pain and sickness. It was so exactly the same I couldn't believe it! I understand sometimes authors can get ideas from other writers' ideas but this is the first book I've read that actually COPIES another authors work. Submitted by Blademaster (Aug 20, 2001)Is it just me or does anyone else see that all Terry Good kind does in his books is blatantly copy from other major series in the fantasy genre. From what I've read of the series Goodkind has hardly incorporated any original piece of work. Read the Wheel of Time series and you'll know what I'm ranting about(The Sisters of the Dark and the Black Ajah?...the perfect coincidence). Also his work is just repetitive and I frankly just got bored after the second book. Submitted by Laura (Aug 17, 2001)I simply do not understand how anyone can not praise Terry Goodkinds work. I've read a few good series in my life but this one surpassed them all. When I compared it to Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" I found it impossible to describe how much better I thought it was. Right from the first page you get pulled into the story. You grow to love so many of the characters and it's almost as if you can feel their pain as you are taken through the story. His writing skills surpass all others and he is able to describe things in a way no one else can. If you have read the fourth book then you will understand that when I read the line "I think Richard already knows" I could not even express what I felt. Even though I am reading the series through for a second time his genius still amazes me. He is the greatest author of all time and I highly recommend his books to everyone. I have made some friends who have never picked up a book in their life read them and every single person I know loved them. If you want some excellent reading then read these books!
