I read this book after being harrassed by my friend of its greatness. I put him off for several months. Anyways, I
am glad I heeded his proclamations, as this book helped me keep my sanity during a stress-filled junior year of
high school. Thats right. I would have gone crazy if I didnt have this fantastic book to help me "make my escape"
as I put it. Instead of shooting up with heroin or smoking crack to escape my problems, I picked up this book.
Instead of dealing with sadistic teachers and scholastic obligations, I could pick up this book and enter the world
of the Six Duchies, and the castle of Buckkeep. The story, of Fitz, a royal bastard, is written in a unique
1st-person perspective - so that it reads as though you are examining eone's journal, only much, MUCH more
exciting. I was at first put off by this, but I found it to be really enjoyable. The setting of Buckkeep is enticing and
incredibly real, and the characters have a lot of life and personality. Reading about the training and upbringing of
Fitz is completely fascinating - you would think that Robin Hobb had been raised as a royal bastard herself. She
has a talent for writing - take advantage of it, and go out and buy this book (series). Top recommendations.

A series that starts off slow, but also shows character development
and a passion for both the story itself and the character of Fitz. These
books remind me of how fun Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time saga was when
the series first started. If you have friends who think of Fantasy as a
field for no talent hacks, hand then Assassin's Apprentice and watch the
addiction begin.

Much can be said about an ending as this. No need for fanfare,
glory, and all the girls. Instead you have a character, Fitz, who has almost...nothing.
A great ending, though a part of me wishes to see more. My heart cries
out " encore ", my soul sadden to find no more pages to read.

This series is fantastic. I read a lot of fantasy, but
this series stands out as the best. Whoever robin hobb is I don't know,
but I will buy all of her books. Fantastic!
