Comments to Jackal of Nar, The by John Marco
Submitted by Bruce (Aug 26, 2010)It is indeed true that the Jackal of Nar is a great book, yet i was dissapointed when i finished it. The source of my dissapointment was quite clearly the character of Richius Vantran himself. quite frankly... he's, as Blackwood Gayle describes him, a "born loser": He irritated me because of the mere fact that every choice he made was the choice of a weakling, not that of a man. Heck, he leaves his kingdom to go look for a woman, which leads to Aramoor being enslaved by Talistan once again and the murder of some of his closest friends AND his wife, Sabrina (I hated Marco for that move and I still hate him now, because she was the character i liked most and Gayle HAD to brutally butcher her AFTER having his way with her...after which he beheads her and sends her head to Vantran). Not to speak of the fact he wasn't even capable of handling Blackwood Gayle on his own in a duel, when the life of even more people he likes depend of his victory and the hatred he feels towards Gayle. This, of course, is only what i felt personally after reading the books, but i simply couldn't give a damn about Vantran or even Dyana. Quite frankly, i still wonder why no one ever thought of shooting a crossbow bolt through Vantran's head. I'd have dunnit if i were a citizen of Aramoor.
