Comments to River of Gods by Ian McDonald

Concur with one minor exception: The characters of Shiv and his sidekick make interesting reading but have such a tenuous tie to the climax that I found myself wondering (a) at their inclusion and (b) at their denouement. Certainly their inclusion allowed a picture of the seamier side of the city but their mission seemed more of a blind alley for them and the plot.
