Comments to The Dreaming Void by Peter F. Hamilton

Submitted by JohnT (Apr 03, 2008)

Good review. I'm about 50 pages from the end and am enjoying it immensely. One problem I have with it are the dream sequences, which, frankly, I've taken to skipping altogether. If they eventually tie in with the overall plot I'll go back and re-read them, but for now I'm not finding anything in the main (Commonwealth) portions of the novel that depend upon knowing the dream details, so I feel pretty good in ignoring them. I was able to guess some of the PS-JU connections with characters in DV - for example, the "Mellanie Roscarie" analog was pretty easy to figure out. ;) I'm pretty sure I figured out who Aaron was in the Commonwealth saga, but haven't been able to confirm it yet. I also pegged who the second dreamer was as their story had nothing to do with the larger going-ons of the main plot, solving it by negation. Hamilton is trying to throw off the audience by pronoun misuse, but I'm having none of that!
