The Burning Sky by Keith KitchenI've seen the burning sky
As it's fallen into the night.
Ashes, glowing brightly
I shiver, bathed in fright.
I've seen the burning sky
In the eyes of young, dead black girl.
Her eyes lifeless, tinged with surprise.
Go ahead, look! She doesn't care anymore.
I've seen the burning sky
In the eyes of a teenaged prostitute.
She knows what she's doing, she wants your money,
You feel your anger burn.
I've seen the burning sky
In the terror of streets.
Drugs, sex and alcohol,
Waiting at your feet.
The sky's on fire,
I see, then shake my head in disgust.
Yet, no one seems to care.
A young, blind girl passes me, obliviuos.
We are afflicted with apathy,
No one seems to see the fire.
They only point to the smoke,
Crying out in surprise as it climbs higher.
