Silence by Sean Martin

Throughout the silent night, I hear
Strange noises, haunting
The mortal cries of something
Near to death, but not quite ready to pass over
In faces, I see questions
For which answers will never come

Agony, Terror, Joy
And a host of other emotions,
Gut-wrenching in their intensity
Pound on me throughout my every waking moment
And while shocking, scaring and frustrating,
They serve as reminders that I am still here

But the silence
That absence of sound
That seems to deafen with it’s presence
The silence of the heart
Is that which I fear the most.

And it is coming…
