Broken Camera Lense by Sophie FahmyFingers pluck the un tuned strings of the acoustic guitar
The guitar case filling up with money as she sings from the heart
Of a broken home and broken memories
She stares through matted hair strewn across her face
Her piercing blue eyes accuse everyone that walks by
The merciless wind howls by catching the money she earned
Notes flying away like leafs so delicate picked up into the air
She watches her dreams of buying food for her empty stomach blow away
Paper dreams turn to ashes
What happened to the glistening sun
That used to shine through the windows of the car
As she sat next to her father watching his every move
The hairs on his knuckles the way he bit his lip as he turned the corner
They both knew that they were getting closer and closer to another good bye
For another 2 weeks
She wasn’t a part of the decision to only see daddy on weekends
But her mother and the court thought it was best
She looks at her dad as he parks the car they share a moment of silence
Where they both know what each other is thinking
As the door slammed shut on him the stained glass broke
She ran up stairs to see him out of her window
He drove to fast the road must have been blurry with the tears
He swerved and hit another car
The night drew close she still stared out of her window picturing
The mud incrusted windows
The crushed bonnet the broken glass
Packing her things she ran away
Knowing she had no hope and no where to stay
Set up camp on a street corner and played songs of missing her father
What ever used to be beautiful in her eyes
Now is repulsive and tainted
Sea shells no longer play the sounds of the ocean
Lay back against the breeze as if it will hold her weight
And it doesn’t matter how much you wish they were here
Wishes are fables like children’s fairy tales
Nothing stays perfect forever
The swing set rusts away
The pictures can burn just as easy as paper
So next time you hold a camera up
Tell them not to smile because happiness
Only last for a little while
