Patiently we duel by Terry Cummings

Summered mystery I explore
These Spanish depths of you
This furnished expanse
This theatre of softness

Moving, sharing breath
We travel again
Through blinking eyes
Into ourselves

On our lips a voice
Whispered, hurried, wordless
Bandaged by air
Melting away

In shared design
In places we remember
In shouted silence
In drifting current

Patiently we duel
Within tangled arms
I am alive with you
Into us we breathe

Sighs break as waves
To roll over us
Crushing our shore

In prolonged insistence
We against time
Waves ripple past and around
Into places beyond

Patiently we duel
