for granted by Terry Cummings

unknown i wonder quietly
that you are here
and a part of me
and that this lies sadly forgotten
its weight afloat
unheeded and unsung

i have grown lazy in custom
and i forget the beauty
i become beneath your touch
i become reflection
and it is with regret and remorse

it is boredom and it is relaxed
it is stupid and dry
it is carpet and stone and water and gravity
it is nothing

i should be flying drunk with worry
that after solid black dreams
when i open my eyes
you will be gone
