You and I by Bonnie Shover

You and I
we talk
with no words.

Your face says it all.
(You're easily heard.)

A smile in your eyes
is what I long to see.

But doubt and mistrust
is glaring back at me.

My friend, my lover
who knew me so well.

How could you not notice?
how could you not tell?

I was scared and alone
I needed your caress
I acted, not out of love,
but of lonliness.

And as I look back
to the memories I hold.

It was you who I loved,
not he that I told.
