Untitled Villanelle by James Corry

In a web of fear I am caught;
In this horrible, dark, dank hell
Travelling down and down to nought.

Against my restraints I have fought,
Inside them my body seems to swell,
In their web of fear I am caught.

A modern Alice is my lot,
But I descend into a well,
Travelling down and down to nought.

I do not know how here I got,
Here, where the fell bells always knell
But in a web of fear I'm caught.

Again and again I have sought
An escape from this, this my cell,
Travelling down and down to nought,

But here I think I'm doomed to rot,
In this madman's head where I dwell.
In a web of fear I am caught,
Travelling down and down to nought
