The dance by Fred van der WalThe dance,
I lead you to the dance floor
like so often I done before.
After all this time
your eyes still gleam
your smile still warms
and your embrace, your touch
still sends electricity
through me.
As you said;" hello"
accompanied by your brilliant smile
I knew I was in deep again,
and I hoped that it was mutual.
As so often.... you took my hand
that old familiar feeling
came over me.
At moments I pulled you
closer than dance partners normally do
even in your hesitation
to be so close to me
I hoped that you were glad to linger,
if only momentarily
because perhaps you understood that we would have
only this fleeting moment,
the excuse of dance
to touch...reminisce.
I seemed to have trouble
looking into your eyes
as if doing so would reveal too much;
that it would give it all away...
I also realized that
another dance we may not have,
another embrace
another bittersweet encounter
may never be again
but that's okay...for now
because tonight.
You have given me enough hope
that perhaps the memory of our dance
will someday lead to an accidental meeting
with you...........
on the dance floor.
