Slowly each vessel became a bastion of destruction and a powerhouse. These giant vessels became the flagships of the Insectoid armada, each supporting and controlling their own huge division of fighters, escorts, and echelons of smaller vessels.

Besides the great colonial ships, numerous new classes of starships were created. These ranged in size from mighty destroyers to lowly scout craft. Each had their own function, despite great differences in specialization and purpose. These vessels gave the Insectoid fleet both versatility and strength, a trait they would need in their upcoming battles. The massive armada fleet was prepared, but the cost was high. Even the Insectoids felt the cost of victory.

With all of their resources going to the war effort, the bugs received only the minimum of supplies. Several million of them died in the first year alone, with billions more suffering from injuring and weakness. Even the Insectoids had needs, but they were being ignored. The Overmind cared nothing for its individual components, and would sacrifice everything to achieve its goals. Even if it killed half of its people, the end justified the means.

It was only the Overmind's solidarity that kept it together against its past dangers. Its unique psychic connection had allowed the bugs to overcome every challenge that they met, and to thrive. Yet now this would be put to the ultimate test. Neither the Overmind's ships nor its weapons would win this war. Against the Galactic Alliance all Insectoids would be put to the breaking point. The million dollar question was whether they could take it. Would the Insectoids splinter in the heat of combat, or rise to meet the occasion? Only time would tell.

Finally, after two decades of constant build up, the fleet was ready. The Overmind finally felt satisfied it was strong enough. With thousands of ships, enhanced stolen Leker technology, the Insectoids felt nothing could stop them. The added bonus of surprise wouldn't hurt either, after all the Leker ship had no chance to alert its comrades of the bugs. The might Armada stood ready to destroy all of the foes of the Insectoids, which consequently was every other race. Through every inhabited system they would go, destroying all competition while placing their own seed to grow. All that remained now was where to start.

Chapter 19-Arrival in Tirius

The Overmind reveled in the completion of its Armada. It then began to draw plans for assault. Warships of every caliber and size were collected together for the upcoming battles. From the two decades of continuous production, thousands of vessels stood ready to bring death to all of the Insectoid's enemies. These ships positioned themselves in one mighty wave, a spear that would be thrown at the hearts of their foes. For months, no decades, the Overmind had patiently waited for this moment, the day when they would strike back at their foes. The Insectoids would bring war to their enemies' doorsteps, and show them the carnage of battle. Thousands of warp engines warmed up, in preparation for the next jump.
