The man floated in mid-air trapped inside the bubble.

As Zin got a closer look at the man, he realized he was probably still in his teens. The Vampire Hunters' Guild did not usually allow anyone to become a full Vampire Hunter until the person had reached the age of twenty-one and had at least undergone fifteen years of training. The boy could not have been more than eighteen years old. Zin had been right not to use to much force against him.

"You shouldn't struggle too much," Zin said, placing a hand on the bubble of air. "You're injured. I can help you but you'll have to behave. I will now release the bubble, but if you struggle I will recast the spell."

With one hand, Zin prepared to recast the spell while his other hand unraveled the bubble of air. As he was about release the final bind that held the spell together, the Hunter suddenly burst out of the trap. Zin was caught off-guard as the Hunter used the air resistance created by the bubble to propel himself upward. The man rotated in mid-air and landed on his two feet behind Zin. As Zin turned around to restore the bubble, several metal wires caught both of his wrists and legs. The wires were attached to a gun that the Hunter was holding. Zin recognized what it was, but there was no time to cast a spell that could counter it. He felt electricity running through the wires toward him, and then the darkness that surrounded him afterward.

I've been tricked, Zin thought. Seb would have a good laugh once he finds out about this.

Aboard the Shiraea, Seb watched as Cerberus finished his breakfast. Zin was right. Cerberus had chewed Seb's favorite boots. His familiar had actually managed to finish one boot and was about to start on the other when Seb arrived. The creature had been in a foul mood and Seb had to settle him down by doubling his serving of Delian caribou meat.

Cerberus chewed the last portion of meat in his bowl, licked his lips, and sat in front of Seb. As Seb looked at his familiar, he remembered Zin's comments the first time he saw Cerberus. Cerberus did look like a wolf with bad hygiene. The creature's fur looked more like it belonged to mouse than to a familiar of his caliber. Cerberus also did not have the same ferocity that other familiars had. In his passive form, Cerberus looked a lot like an semi-adorable house pet.

"You should have chewed Zin's boots instead. He was the one who forgot to give you your breakfast."

Cerberus only whined and put one paw over his glassy, gray eyes and began crawling on his hind legs.

"You're really hopeless," Seb said, sighing. "I never had this much trouble with you until Zin came along. But, I suppose it's fine."

Seb felt the sudden surge of psychic energy emanating from the planet. He stood up so fast that it startled Cerberus. He began running toward the shuttle bay with Cerberus close behind him. He had to get back on the planet. When he reached the shuttle, he felt Zin's presence being cut off. The blood-spell the linked them had been broken. The Wizard could either be unconscious or worse.

Zin, what's happened to you? Seb thought as he rushed inside the shuttle. In his haste, he forgot that it was still daytime on the side of the planet where Zin was. Still, the surge of psychic energy from the planet continued to grow.

. . . To Be Continued . . .
