(Page 2 of 3) Adam (Prologue) by Rob Garbin At times they may have seemed like more to me, but I knew they were only machines. I believed that only God should make life."
"I did not mean to cast doubt upon your character young man. I was only trying to understand the nature of your service to our Father" Abraham responded soothingly. Then with a gentle smile he reached his right hand out to help Miles stand up from the stone table he had been laying on. Miles was surprised by the granite like strength of his ancient father then, remembering where he was, only smiled at the pillar of faith standing before him. He could now see that he was in a verdant park full of life that radiated strength such that his entire body swelled with the abundant energy.
Abraham smiled and turned the dazed young man around until he faced an alabaster arch framing a large gate. The gate was made of some substance that shown like gold but had a warmth like that of a living being. Slowly, the gate began to swing outwards welcoming Miles to a view beyond imagination. Through the portal he could see that the ground sloped down from the gates onto a plain that stretched to the horizon in any direction he looked. If he could have walked around to the other side of the hill, he would have seen the same majestic sight. There were no clouds in the sky and the air was crystal clear as an early fall morning. The plain was a patchwork quilt of shades of green sprinkled liberally with every color of flower known to man. Birds flitted about singing joyous praises to the Lord. Miles turned back to Abraham with reluctance only to find the ancient father staring vacantly past him. With a start Abraham focused back on Miles and let a gentle smile crease his weathered face.
"It is time for you to move on young man. All of your loved ones are waiting to see you and the Lord will wish to speak to you soon."
"What should I do?" asked Miles.
"Worry not what course to take," replied Abraham. "The Lord will guide your steps and light your path. All of your needs will be fulfill."
Miles smiled then turned and looked through the gleaming white-gold gate toward the vast horizon while warmth seeped into his body from the presence that illuminated the world. He walked slowly out of the garden into his new life knowing that there was no need to hurry. Abraham watched Miles until he disappeared into the distance. Surprisingly, his mouth was turned down in a frown.
Abraham moved further into the garden, his thoughts on Miles because he new the Lord would be summoning the young man soon. He walked softly through stands of aspen, oak, and maple, which guided the small burbling stream that soothed the transition of the newly arrived. Abraham drank deeply of the balm himself. Eventually he came to a grotto where an underground water source filled a deep pool that overflowed on one side to form the stream. Since the stream resulted from the overflow, the pool was remarkably calm. Abraham looked upon the still waters then closed his eyes. Lifting his face to the Lord he let a fervent prayer for understanding pass his lips.
Opening his eyes again, he stared at the surface of the pool as it turned into a kaleidoscope of swirling colors.
