(Page 4 of 7) Untitled by Rich L. No messenger's have been sent to Estes with further word.
"A notice has been posted at the town square signed by Lord Pestro stating that although he is not a law maker and cannot force any to obey him, he advises heavily against anyone going within range of the East Hills until more news has been sent."
The boy very calmly rolled his scroll back very neatly and began to tie the ribbon back around it. The room began to quietly buzz about the news they just took in. The boy went to the barkeeper to receive his payment.
Delvin stood by his chair with his mouth half open. He couldn't help but think that now was the time to train ten times harder and help the knights restore peace to the East Hills. He also wondered how long it had the messenger to get here and how much may have happened or changed since the boy's departure from Estes.
The buzz through the crowd was growing back toward it's original volume as Delvin took his seat and looked toward Tommy. He figured Tommy would probably not be too heavily effected by the news. He never was one to be as heavily interested in world events but did, however, share Delvin's interest in venturing out to see more provinces of Gildor.
"The knights may need help you know," Tommy said.
"It's a useless thought Tommy. I cannot just up and leave Father and the farm to go to the capital on a hope for proper training and acceptance to the Legion." Delvin looked at Tommy. "You have nothing holding you here. Why not venture into the world and find your place."
"And leave my only friends. I couldn't just leave you and Simestra and take off. Besides I don't have your skills with a sword. All I'm really good at is goofing off and enjoying a cup of Ale. You're the one with talent." Tommy looked like he were in though for a moment. "I think we should just up and leave. Just leave some form of a note for good ol' Rasclon and let's go," Tommy said with a tinge of excitement to his voice.
Although Delvin shared the same excitement at the idea, he knew he couldn't do something like that.
"Tommy, you know I could never," Delvin sadly stated.
Simestra had made her way back to their table with the empty tray now filled with their order. She began to place their food and drink in front of them and as she did so, her hair gently brushed into Delvin' head and face. He was almost immediately lost in the smell. His feelings toward Simestra were growing to an intolerable point. Rasclon was right when he had pointed out that Simestra's parents did approve of Delvin. They liked him from childhood. Her father, Tanner Cobbler and mother Esther had always treated Delvin kinder than any of the other neighborhood boys, especially Tommy. They always thought him to be a bit reckless for their daughter.
"I love when the messenger's show up. It's good for business and gives everyone something new to talk about instead of the same old stuff," she said with her smiling gleam that she seemed to always carry with her. "Don't you think so guys."
"I know I do," said Tommy.
"Yes," Delvin said clearing his throat.
