Quickly I placed my ear to his chest but his heart wasn't beating. He wasn't breathing he apparently drew his last breathe some time earlier. Then my mind began to wonder, if whatever these insects were that caused my friend to die were still around, what chance did I have. There wasn't time to worry about that now, I had to find my other friend and fast.
Leaving my friend behind like that was one of the hardest things. If I was to find out the fate of my other friend and escape this horrible nightmare I had to do whatever it took. With that notion in mind I headed the opposite direction still unsettled by what I had seen.
Finding my other friend was proving to be more difficult than I could have imagined. After hours of walking I discovered a strange camp the likes of which I'd not seen before. Strange soft leaves spun together like a spiders web were draped over two poles suspended by two others. In the middle of the camp were a series of rocks in a circular patern with a very low fire emminating from the center. Hanging above that also suspended, with sticks this time, was a shiny object filled with water. To the left of me were the skins of various dead animals attached to something I have never seen before. It was square shaped with vines running back and forth. The skins were held in place with what appeared to be perfectly shaped bits of wood. That alone was enough to make me sick until I cought wind of something strange and something familiar.
There was something coming my way, I had to hide quickly. I bolted to the woods in front of me as fast as I could. Once sufficently hidden I watched as two hairless creatures wearing strange leaves on almost their entire body approached the camp. With them my other friend tied up unable to escape. He was moaning in pain as they slung his broken battered body harshley onto the ground. One of the creatures kicked him in his side as he screamed in pain. The other pulled out a strange object and pointed it at his head. A loud echo rang out and my friends body jolted then he didn't move again.
The two creatures appeared to laugh at this then in a strange language I couldn't understand began to converse. This conversation seemed to last for hours while my friends body lay there as blood poured from his wounds. Paralyzed that what happened to him may happen to me I remained motionless.
Several hours later I witnessed the most horrible sight of my life. These two hideous creatures with the help of a long sharp claw, began to to cut open my friend. All the while I sat motionless unable to move partially from queriosity mostly from fear. The two creatures continued until my friend was no more than a huge piece of skin and flesh. They hung his skin over a structure like the one I saw earlier. The Purpose of which I still do not understand, the sight still haunts my dreams.
It must have been late at night before the creatures, whom I now know to call men, fell asleep. Once they had I gathered my friends remains and quietly slipped back into the cover of the trees.
