He'd had no last words.
Then he heard of a group. They called themselves the ‘Shadow Resistance,' and were said to be a successful band of rogues whose only purpose was to kill magicals. Months later, he met one of these rogues. They became good friends, and after the rogue had heard of the seventeen-year-old's story, decided to invite him into the Shadow Resistance. He abandoned his new family, and went on a long journey north with the friend and another rogue, who was a friend of the first, until he eventually reached Camp Black Bird, in the Arua desert. This is where he met many more of the Shadow Resistance.
His second killing occurred on Goldhel Gate – the only passage from Pyronia to Ghabani through the Agnili Mountains – where he slit a Fireguard's throat as his partner changed watch. He didn't see his victim's face that time, as he came in from behind and didn't want to look anyway. Time passed, there was more needless killing, and he found himself in good stead with the large and ever expanding Shadow Resistance. Camp Black Bird had now grown into a thriving town – which upon first sight looked innocent and normal, but on closer inspection, was full of murderous, treacherous criminals.
Eventually, the Shadow Resistance was too big to hold in just Camp Black Bird and other, similar towns. They had to move out. Some people had heard of a new continent across the sea, discovered by the people of Bhavati, which was Ghabani's neighbouring country. The leaders of the Shadow Resistance thought to go and see for themselves the new island, which was about the size of Pyronia, Aeronia (the Air capital country), and Aquilis (the Water capital country) put together. A sizeable place, and it would be big enough to hold the Shadow Resistance for years to come, perhaps even until they were large enough to begin proper assaults upon the other Magi.
So, 8 ships sailed from Anjha, on the coast of Bhavati. The Magus Black was in one of those ships. After weeks of sailing, they arrived at the landmass. They started building as soon as they arrived. The first town was called Arden Hurst. They sent one ship back, with news of their discovery, and orders to send 20 more ships, with scouts and explorers among them.
20 years later, the continent, now called Ulunda, was split into four countries, named after the leaders of the Shadow Resistance: Brontague, named after Captain Brontague; Montarane, named after Captain Montarane; Cynnia, named after Captain Cyni; and Rubian, named after Captain Ruby. At this time, the Magus Black was a captain; equal in power to Brontague, Montarane, Cyni, Ruby and three other captains. They were the leaders of the Shadow Council; and, by extension, the leaders of Ulunda and the Shadow Resistance.
And then, a group of explorers stumbled on a forgotten temple, in the middle of a valley. When they went inside, one of them dropped dead, and one went insane instantly. The other three explorers were very frightened, but also very curious. They could feel in their hearts that this huge temple had once been a place of great power, and even now, after god knows how long it had lain unused, that power still radiated from somewhere inside it.
