A flash of green, searing pain and Quinzin suddenly found himself on his back next to Caira. That green woman was a fucking mage! Quinzin was frozen in place. Here it comes, Quinzin thought. I hope this will be quick. Quinzin's power burgeoned in response to the magic being put on his body. He whimpered as a rush of power flooded into his limbs. Shocking heat emanated from his body and with a roar he pushed himself up.

Quinzin sent a sizzling wave of magic hurdling toward the red haired giant. Yes, it will be over quickly. His eyes widened when the man indifferently shrugged the magic off and began sprinting toward him. Quinzin trembled and stooped to pick up the knife he had lackadaisically dropped. He gauged the man's speed and propelled the dagger skyward.... The tooth slammed into the sprinting figure five meters in front of Quinzin. The man stumbled. Time seemed to slow as Quinzin rushed forward to land a fatal kick to the man's face.

A scorching light encircled him. The radiance slowly dimmed to darkness.

Red stood up and brushed the dirt off his clothes. He peered down at the boy lying unconscious on the ground. He appeared to be Quendelian, but slightly different. He was probably a mixed blood. His disheveled hair was brown and his bronze skin was ripped with muscles.

Erisha materialized next to him and stared down at the young man as well.

"I should terminate him." The computers in his brain allowed no emotion to be shown in his voice.

"No! He isn't the one-"

Red glanced at Erisha then back to the boy. "He is dangerous," Red pronounced like a conviction.

Erisha paused and after a moment threw up her hands. "Okay? He is. That boy is faster than anything I've ever seen!" Erisha sighed. "Even so, he isn't dangerous to us. Besides he could be one of Omron's secret servants. You wouldn't want that would you? How bout we preserve a life for once?"

Red noted Erisha's sudden passion and distantly wondered at it. "No, my master will be thoroughly angry at you for letting me kill him. That is, if this boy is one of his servants, though I doubt it."

Erisha eyes widened and her skin turned a darker shade of green. "Me!"

"I know the way of things. I can only obey. I am a tool to be used and you wield that tool for Omron. Therefore the tool can not be blamed for being misused."

Erisha's intensity died and her face softened. "I am so sorry. I try. I try so hard...."

"I have no knowledge of what you speak of." Red waved his hands at the woman beside the boy. "What of her?"

Erisha put her back to Red and spoke over her shoulder. "You saw how fiercely he fought to protect this woman. If it wasn't for your powers, I believe he could've given me some trouble." She examined the woman. "She is old and therefore is important. In her long years, she has no doubt gained risky allies. Even Omron wouldn't want to upset the ancient powers that still wander Gien."

"You would be surprised at whom I would challenge." Red said dryly. His voice had changed it was deeper now and more mature.
