(Page 3 of 3) A Tale of Luc (Part. 1) by William Quinn
(2 ratings)
| There was obviously more than one archer.
The pixie looked at Luc, the meager glow around it turning a grey color. "You're right. I'll handle this." The pixie fluttered behind Luc and a cloud of yellow dust started to trail from it's wings. Another arrow passed by Luc, closer this time.
"I'm sorry little one, it just came out." Luc looked over his shoulder. Behind him he could see armed men on horseback and dogs entering the ever-expanding yellow cloud being emitted from the pixie's wings. As they passed through the cloud, they began hacking and wheezing. Men fell off heaving horses and dogs began pawing at noses as coughs racked their bodies. One of the horses, no longer being reined by it's rider, panicked and darted almost ninety degrees to the side. This sent the only two remaining riders in sight into the ground.
The pixie fluttered back up to Luc and landed on his shoulder. "It's alright, I know." The pixie watched it's handy work for a few seconds before speaking again, "I'm going to need to rest soon, the magic can be rather taxing."
"Hopefully that dust will take care of them, and you and I can both get some sleep later tonight." Luc glanced over his shoulder again, the group behind him started to fade from sight. He turned forward with a smile on his face. It was then that he felt an arrow pierce his flesh.
