The Varansaga by Darrell Ridley

SUMMARY: This story is a creation myth i wrote in a Tolkienesque/Viking Saga style for a Fantasy World setting i am working on. The story is 40 pages in length.

This is the Tale of the beginning of all things as was told to
this humble scribe by Artheyr of the line of Galonweyr whom my people
called "Artheyr Y Cymen" or Artheyr The Wise for indeed Artheyr was wise and learned and very ancient having been born long ago under the leaves
of the great wood of Hynedyyr. In the long life of Artheyr he saw much and learned much from those that were older still than he. This tale of the Beginnings he told to me before his passing into Tir Simbryl and with his passing so passed the Alfarael from the face of Aeryth, for he was by all
accounts the last of his kind.
Long has the story of Beginnings been known to my kin and to the minds of Men and dwarves alike. The dwarves know it for it is written in stone upon there great hall of Durgaethol where it was carved by the hands of Ulien himself in days long ago. Men have passed the story down in song and tale for generations and to them it is known as the Varansaga and to the Liosalfar we know of it from our fathers who were as Artheyr the first of our race, the Alfarael who have now passed beyond the veil and to us it is known as the Varanchweydll.
Never has the story been written down, least to my knowledge and to the knowledge of wiser Alfar than myself, save by the dwarves who treat there stories and histories as a treasure and seldom speak of them save amongst themselves in the fastness of there halls. So it is that I set my quill to work at the behest of Queen Althien in the year of the Bright Spring Dawning.

"Hearken yee of the Alfar and yee men of East and West and also yee
Durgaethir in your deep cold halls and Hearken all kindred of Aeryth for i shall tell yee of The Beginnings and of Varan The Everlasting and of the glory and folly of both gods and mortals alike as was told to me by Aervaran The First child of Aeryth herself, deep in the heart of Hynedyyr when I was newborn."
In The time before time was reckoned, there was nothing but the dark cold vastness which stretches beyond time and thought, and in this darkness there was life...of a sort but it was a lonely and malignant thing as
evil in its thoughts as is a man left alone for to long in a dark place, unable to find solace or a kind word or hand to lift its spirit from its gloom and wanting nothing more than an end to its own misery and that end never comes. This great malignant mind that dwelled in the dark had no name and simply was, at least at that time.
This great tormented being wished long and hard for an end and after an age longer than the age of Aeryth that is now, he finally found his voice in the emptiness and cried aloud "Alas, Alas, Curses, is there to be no end to my suffering?" And his great voice echoed into the darkness and the sound of it traveled far and to his surprise, many points of light were kindled in the emptiness around him and they shone some brightly and some dimly but all far away, and he wondered at the marvel of it and perhaps he knew some joy then for the sameness of his existence was now different.
So the being called out to the shining stars and asked them to speak with him but they did not, and he tried to reach them but he could not move and they remained far away from him.
