SUMMARY: This is the entry for february flash fiction contest.

Transcend by Federico Patané.

"What is your goal in life?"

"That is an easy question and the answer is just as simple. My goal is to transcend."

"Transcend in doing what?"

"killing."

"Interesting. Tell me then. How do you plan to transcend? Mostly everything has been done in that area."

"Not everything. I know I will be a hard task to accomplish. I am fully aware of how much I have to do and how many others are so good at it."

"Have you already thought what you will do?"

"Yes, otherwise I wouldn't be so confident."

"Do you enjoy what you do?"

"I am just like any other man. I do what I must to live, to survive. And when I can I do what I love. But you were not asking me this. You want to know if I enjoy killing. You see, killing is not as easy as people think. And killing like I kill requires the skill of an artist. Not the brutal and senseless murder of a soldier who pulls the trigger at the enemy. The preparation, the planning. It is all similar to a game. Afterwards, when the time comes, I enjoy particularly The power imposed by me on my victim. Tying him up. Talking to him. Explaining why he has to die."

"I am sorry to interrupt. But are you aware of the atrocity that you are describing?"

"Why do you think this is an atrocity? It is actually a act of love. Of sacrifice. You probably wouldn't understand it until you see the face on the people about to die. They cry and they plead, all in vain. Until they accept the fact of what is going to happen to them. That God will have mercy on their souls and will greet them with open arms. And in that moment
I envy them, for my time has not yet come."

"Can you describe to me how you kill your victims?"

"Yes. I can. But I am afraid that you will find my methods.... what is the word you use? Unorthodox."

"I believe I can handle it. Try me."

"Well then. As I have already stated my victims are tied standing up. They are always naked, just like they were brought into this world. But make no mistake, I crave not sexual pleasures with them. And I always place a mirror in front of them so they can see their whole body. My usual tools are two knifes. A big one, about five inches and a short one, about 2 inches. I begin with the short one, carving passages of the scriptures on their arms and legs. The pain of this proceeding is usually very high, so most pass out after a while. It is then that I have to stop. I have to wait for them to wake up again."

"But they don't die after this?"

"Not until I bring death upon them. I have been given the gift to prevent death until I see fit. All of them, they needed to die a conscious death. You have to understand that I am a merciful man. I don't make my victims suffer more than they have to. In this part is where they accept their need to die. Most usually just look at me with the same eyes, that same expression that I have seen too many times. They ask me to get them closer to God."

"So you killed them?"

"Yes. But not before I pray for them. To the heavenly father to accept them. Then I take my knife and slowly press it against their chest.
