SUMMARY: Entry for April Flash Fiction contest. Theme: Forbidden

Once upon a time, in a not so distant land, there was a Ruler – Miss Head, who ruled with a clear logic and rationale. In the same place, there also lived little Princess Heart (who likes bubbles, butterflies, rainbows and fairies) and the mysterious Madame Gut.

One night, Ms. Head was sitting in her penthouse, plush, post-modern office, equipped with the most advanced computer ever, figuring out complex algorithms, and even more complex, inter-personal relationships. Suddenly, she heard screaming of the highest decibel humanly possible! Upon rushing down, she found Princess Heart had tears streaming down her face and was screaming-

"I WANT! I WANT! I WANT!!!!!!"

Even Gut had been awakened from her deep energy conversion! She too had rushed to find out the reason behind Heart's screaming!

HEAD: (yelling over the commotion) OH, GOD!!! WHAT HAPPENED?? WHAT DO YOU WANT??

HEART: I WANT! I WANT! I WANT!!!!!!

GUT: Head, don't you really know what she wants?

Head knew.

HEAD: But we have already dealt with it! That man is off limits!!! There is nothing we can do about it now. He is in love with another woman!

HEART: I WANT! I WANT! I WANT!!!!!!

GUT: You know how Heart is. You can't ask her to stop dreaming!

HEAD: I am not asking her to stop dreaming, I am asking her to stop screaming!!! I can't get any work done this way!

HEART: I WANT! I WANT! I WANT!!!!!!

HEAD: (Covering both her ears) Why is she doing this? She is normally so sweet! Stupid, but sweet!

GUT: (pensively) you know, I have a feeling that what she wants might actually happen...

HEAD: (rolling her eyes) Of course...!

GUT: Why? Don't you believe me?

HEART: I WANT! I WANT! I WANT!!!!!!

HEAD: Yeah! Sure! Whatever!! Just make her stop!!

GUT: We should try to help her understand that what she wants will eventually come to happen...

HEAD: How about Duct tape round her mouth??

GUT: That'll work... faster!!

HEART: (blink, blink, blink)

HEAD: I've got a roll in my office. Give me two minutes...

And so, peace, albeit unsteady, was returned to the Land, while Heart continued to want mutely.
