"The couple in the next flat are fighting," Jake said, downing his latest beer. "Screaming, banging things. Every night."

"What did you do?"

"Called it in," Jake said. "a'course."

"The authorities? What were you thinking?"

"Someone should know," Jake said.

"They sent police?" Bennie asked.

"Nope," Jake said. "Contractors."

"What good are contractors?"

"They reinsulated my wall," Jake said. "I lost a foot off my living room."

"Jeez," Bennie said.

"Good walls make good neighbors." Jake continued. "Can't hear a thing anymore."

"Yeah, that solves it," Bennie said, pouring a beer for himself.

"They sent me a bill," Jake said.
