SUMMARY: Entry for the august Flash fiction contest - Flirting.

Dinner – By Federico Patané.

The light flashed again behind the tree. I wanted to ignore it but something within told me to follow it. The night was clear and the full moon made it easy to see the forest ahead of me. Yet, something was different and strange. The Silence was deafening. The forest seemed deprived of all sounds, even the soft breeze in the tree leaves that were blossoming.

I spotted the light again, this time a few trees further away. A sense of urgency invaded me and I walked fast towards it, almost running. I reached the tree but saw nothing. I began to ponder if I had really seen anything when I saw it again. This time not a flash but a point of light that changed intensity as it moved from tree to tree a little ahead.

I followed the point of light that danced gracefully with such beauty that was almost impossible to take my eyes from it. I felt like gliding mindlessly following the path of the light. I felt hypnotized. This feeling was somehow soothing and pleasant.

I am uncertain how long I walk through the forest when I arrived at a clearing. It was round in shape and had a fallen tree trunk in the middle. The light flew around a few times and then went to sit on the trunk where the light disappeared. From the distance it seemed that what emitted the light was a huge butterfly.

I walked slowly to the tree trunk so that I didn't scare the creature, whatever it was. When I was next to it I saw two big transparent butterfly wings. They were adorned with golden threads that described a beautiful patterns throughout the wings.

The wings moved a little and began to display the light I had seen before. Then the creature turned around and I fell on my knees incredulous of what my eyes were showing me: A tiny female human form. This creature was a small woman with butterfly wings. All I could think of was that I had a fairy in front of me. What else could it be?

The fairy walked around the trunk sensually while she examined me and then came to face me, kneeling, mirroring my position in the ground. I was mesmerized by her beauty. She had shoulder length black hair and matching black eyes that were concealed by eyelashes that would have been too long in a human being. Her naked slim body was as close to perfection as it could possibly be.

She placed her hands in her knees and looking into my eyes she smiled. I must have blushed because she giggled. All I could do was smile back. She blinked a few times and this time I felt the blood flood my face and blush again. We kept still for a few moments, just staring at each other.

"Are you a fairy?" I managed to get out, realizing at once how stupid my question was.

She frowned for a moment and then giggled. Then she began to hum a beautiful lullaby and burst into danced around the log. Her movements where soft and perfect, each one that seemed to enhance her perfect features.

I was transfixed. A feeling of immense attraction invaded me every time she turned and my eyes met hers. At some point she stopped humming, only to realize that I too was humming the soft melody.
