SUMMARY: A brief description of a lost childhood friendship. A little girl loses a friend because of teasing from other children who have not yet learned that boys and girls can be friends.

With tears in her eyes the little girl watched her friend walk away. She knew somehow that things would never be the same again between them even though she didn't understand why. The two had climbed trees, gone swimming, built snow forts, had snow ball fights, gone roller skating and rode bikes together. They were happy just to be with one another no matter what they did. Then one day everything changed because of something someone else said. That night as she lay in her bed crying, unable to understand why her friend no longer
wanted to play with her, she felt her heart breaking. Little did the girl know that this was just the beginning of many, many heart aches and that with each relationship that did not work out, she would recall this time of her life.
Children can be so cruel to other children, sometimes without even meaning to be.
The little girl missed her friend and couldn't grasp why they could no longer play together as before. Why did everything have to change just
because others couldn't understand? For years she would search for the type of friendship she had all those years ago and each time she thought she found it, it would elude her once again.
As she looked for the one person who would make her feel whole again, she was disappointed over and over again. Perhaps what she searched for did not exist.
Perhaps what she longed for, she could not have.
