2045

Robert Spartan, age thirty, standing five feet and ten inches with dark brown hair sat in his luxurious penthouse apartment. He overlooked the entire city of Chicago through the large glass windows and door that led to his rooftop patio, and the city boy soaked up every detail storing it within the library that was his memory.

With a minimal amount of energy Robert stood from his leather couch, straightened his pricey blue suit, and moved closer to the patio feeling more intensely, with each step, the loving warmth of the sun. A deep breath and a heavy sigh later he closed his eyes. His hand reached for the glass door and he opened it with a spontaneous burst of energy. A slight grin formed lifting the left side of his face as he allowed the cool breeze to wash over his entire body.

Soon this will all be nothing but memories. The thought floated through his mind as each burst of wind crashed over him like a wave. An electronic beep rang within the apartment stealing him from that moment. He closed the patio door and moved to answer the computerized ring; narrowly escaping a hard fall over the coffee table. Upon opening the door another grin formed.

"Good to see you friend." Lucas Wellto smiled right back standing in the hall directly outside the doorway. He stood about a good foot shorter than Robert, his physique wasn't quite as defined as his companion either, and to be perfectly honest Lucas was more on the pudgy side of life. The clothing Mr. Wellto wore was specifically tailored to hide that fact, and the only feature worth noting was his bright blond hair.

"It always is my friend. Come in."

Upon entering Lucas would give brief glances back to Robert while walking ahead of him saying, "I'm sorry to intrude like this. I know its your last night and all, and that you wanted to be alone."

"Nonsense." Robert closed the door behind him and nonchalantly pointed to the couch as an area for Lucas to sit. "I'm glad you stopped by. That speech about wanting to be alone was for the people I didn't want to see. I know I said goodbye to everyone last night, including you, but this makes it more personal for me. You're the only true friend I've ever had in this crazy life."

"Thanks Robert." Lucas was finally seated. "That means a lot to me."

"So what made you decide to come see me on my last day of complete consciousness, as it were?" Robert took a seat across from his childhood chum.

"I needed to make sure that this was something you truly wanted to go through with."

"Don't be absurd Lucas. I didn't pay all that money for nothing. I have no choice but to go through with it at this point."

"Doesn't it seem risky to you at all?"

"CryoTech has the best scientists and doctors from around the world working around the clock. I'll be fine."

"But a hundred years? Wouldn't you rather do a shorter period of time at first just to test it out? It would be cheaper and safer. Then things won't change all that much when you return, or wake up, or whatever it is they call it.
