Adam oversaw all the stations and made his rounds to answer any last minute questions, and to check on the specifics of what each tech was doing. Fully satisfied Adam took his seat at the main station.

"All right people. This was a long time coming. Let's make sure we do this right." Adam put on his headset and looked to his friend. His childhood companion stood in the isolated chamber alone and nervous. Frank dared not move and eagerly awaited the final countdown.

"When is this going to be over with already, Adam?" Adam could hear Frank's voice loud and clear within his headset.

"Take it easy buddy, we'll get you there. Just stay calm and don't move like you've been doing. The main sequence has just been initiated."

The explosion at the door quickly stole Frank from the moment of glory. Armed troops rushed in ready to fire, and they did so on those techs brave enough to stand in their way.

"What is this?!" Adam stood up frightened for his life, but knowing he had to somehow take control of the situation.

"Adam, what the hell is going on in there?" Frank's voice boomed in Adam's ear. Through the video monitor Frank could be seen pacing about eager to get out of the room.

Before Adam could respond the fatal gunshot went off. Adam toppled over the console seeing that his best friend had only one chance out of this. He reached for the activation button with a hand dripping in blood from instinctively covering the initial wound, and he pressed down just as another shot went off killing him for good.

.....................

Nicole Agna was so shocked at the sudden appearance of this strange man, that she hesitated to take him to the hospital or police. Being an out of work certified nurse she recognized that the wounds the stranger had were superficial, and that he would regain consciousness shortly.

A half day passed, and she had stayed by his side. Her home was comfortable enough, in the outskirts of a small town. It was a farm house without the farm. No one was really around to see anything, and she couldn't help but feel a strange connection with this man whose sudden entrance into her life compelled her to bring him into her home. Something about him was so familiar that it frightened her.

Frank awoke opening his eyes and stretching as though he were back in his apartment. He looked about the room finally recognizing that the project had worked, and that he was roughly twenty six years into the past.

"It's okay. I found you on the side of the road and brought you in. You're lucky I came by, too. There isn't anyone around these parts for miles."

Frank sat up looking over the bandages and around his arms and his ribs. "What happened to me?"

"That's what I'd like to know. You weren't here and then you were here. You just appeared and landed right in front of me. You had all these scratched all over your body. They looked awfully funny. I couldn't figure out what caused them."

Frank rubbed his head as he took in a deep breath. Adam. "I guess it was just an unforeseen result of the actual travel."

"I don't follow stranger." Nicole smiled radiating her simple beauty as she pulled her shoulder length light brown hair behind her ears.
