2245

The awakening a second time around was not as violent as the first. The module opened itself, and Robert felt as though he were waking from the most comfortable of naps. As he looked about the room he found the layout to be nearly the same, and that it was completely void of human life.

"Hello?" He called out rubbing his eyes and noticing that he was now wearing a white singlesuit. The adjustment to the lighting wasn't nearly as dramatic as the first time, and he found that he could move about quite easily. The technology must have improved a great deal.

As Robert stepped from the module feeling his bare feet on the carpeted floor of the room, a human like figure entered the lab walking with a mechanical gait. Robert stumbled backward shaken by the sudden image of a robot as it fully entered the light.

"It was not my intent to frighten you Mr. Spartan. I do apologize." The voice sounded cold and metallic.

"Where is everyone?"

The robot took a few steps closer to Robert trying its hardest to appear human in form. "They are either sleeping in the suspended animation modules, or they are dead or dying."

The shock of the words and how they sounded from the cold voice made it difficult for Robert to stay calm. He quickly began to pace near the module. "What do you mean by dead or dying?!"

"The world is at war right now." The robot answered. "Please have a seat Mr. Spartan."

Robert did so sitting on the very module he stepped out of. "Who is at war?"

"People are at war with me. They are at war with Sam."

"What?! That's crazy! You were their hope! You made things better! Your programming made everything better!" Robert tried his best to make sense of this new and surreal setting.

"Please try and stay calm Mr. Spartan."

Robert looked to the metallic figure. "Am I your prisoner then? Is that it?"

"You are not my prisoner Mr. Spartan. The agreement we made still stands, and will continue to stand for as long as you naturally live, or whenever you decide to end it. I set you free a century later from when you were last put in suspended animation. You may remain here or rest for another century. The choice is entirely up to you."

Without warning the complex shook as a thunderous explosion could be heard off in the distance. Robert's first reaction was to run, but Sam's robotic arm tightly held him in place as it looked to him saying, "Please refrain from running Mr Spartan. This will be over shortly."

"What will be over shortly?" Robert felt a cold sweat break out, and he was soon drenched in his own perspiration.

"This is most unfortunate." The cold voice spoke up and the face of the man made creature looked directly at Robert. "You were awakened towards the end of this rebellion to my control. What you are witnessing is a last ditch effort, if you will, by this resistance to destroy me."

"But it sounded like they entered the complex.
