    Hi all,

I just heard that James Barclay's been working on a new trilogy called Elves. This got me pretty excited because I usually love stories revolving around Elves. The first book, Elves: Once Walked With Gods, is coming out on the 21st of January 2010. Has anyone been privileged enough to read a review copy?

Doubt we'll see review copies for a few months yet. Gollancz do seem to send their ARCs out quite early, but not 6 months before release! You're probably looking at October for the first copies to turn up.

I must admit, the artwork doesn't work for me at all. Not sure about the dodgy tagline either. :(

I quite like the cover, it looks very much DnD-like.

However, they could have easily come up with something better than: "They live for thousands of years, now they are trying to kill each other"

"They live for thousands of years, now they are trying to kill each other"

Is that the tagline? That's great! Unfortunately, I'm trying to work on the Raven books, so this one will have to wait.

Also unfortunately for Mr. Barclay, he has chosen to write about elves. And King Arthur of the elves. So I guess he's kicked out of the club now. Oh wait, no he's not. :)

Kat, the Raven books have elves in, too. And dragons.

This is a prequel of sorts. Same world, earlier events.

For those who haven't seen the cover:

Not too sure about that cover myself.

Excellent! I'm having a bit of a problem, as the reissues with new cover art aren't out yet, but the old ones, particularly Dawnthief, aren't easy to order. But I'll work it out eventually.

Well, Pyr is soon to be releasing the first three books in the Raven series in the next month or so, in successive months so you should be able to find them very soon.

I got excited when I misread the thread title and thought it was "Elvis: Once Walked With Gods". This is a bit of a letdown after that.

I think James should write about Elvis next. He'd be very good at it.

While I'm generally not a fan of cover art like that, I do like this one. It looks really videogame-like. If that was a cover for a videogame, I'd totally pick that up and check it out.

Darn, really missed a trick there, Eventine :)

    Elvis... the trials of a hip-jivin', cool-singin' warrior rock-god. A sure-fire hit.

Thanks for thee comments on cover and tagline. out of my direct control but I'll certainly feedback. The book is coming out in January 2010, by the way.

I can't decide if I like the cover art or not. It's great if it was for a video game, or a role playing game like D&D, but for a fantasy novel, it seems corny to me. But, that won't stop me from picking it up and reading it, so I shouldn't really be complaining.

I don't know anything about the book -- but if I picked this up in a bookstore, I would put it back down. Both the cover image and the tagline sound very cheesy. Not good cheesy.

Well I doubt you'll like the cover for the second one, myself I liked them. Seem fun and promise good action:

Once Walked With Gods is out around 19th August. We did eventually change the tagline so thanks to all who spoke about that. I cannot for the life of me find the exact words but they're different. Better, much better.

As for the cover posted by Bastard, I think it is superb. It is the essence of a TaiGethen warrior. This book doesn't come out until August 2011 so plenty of time for you all to have your say...

I hope that those of you who read Once Walked with Gods enjoy it, even if you have reservations about the cover.
