Well, three I think... Mmm... maybe even four

One was about a planet that was being colonised by people who had been hybernated. Some of them had "ice on the brain", as the cryogenic system didn't quite function properly while in transit and it has left them "retarded". There is a love story in there somewhere, and a race of frog like animals that eat their youngs and become terribly dangerous for the human population.
Could be in two parts, not sure.

The second book is also a two parter I think, although I remember only the first bit. It is about a young woman who's ask to join a team of scientist on an asteroid on near Earth orbit. This asteroid is bigger inside than it is outside and contains a long corridor. There are gates that can be open that lead to other worlds (I think), using some sort of device. There is a love story between a security guy and the young woman scientist and also some sort of time travel. And a Russian guy too, I think.
As far as I can remember, part two starts with a young woman inheriting the opening device from her grandmother (the young scientist). There are pyramids.

Any idea? This has been bugging me for ages...

The first is definitely Legacy of Heorot a personal favorite of mine. There is a sequel called Beowulf's Children

And the second is Eon by Greg Bear There are four books in the series called "The Way"

    Hope that helps,
    Jim

    Thanks Guys,
It's nice to be loved, but I think there are many members who could have picked out those two.

As for the quick reply I guess I was just lucky I happened by when I did.
