I apologize for a post like this that's been done to death. I remember creating the topic over a year ago but it is no longer available. Therefore, I want to try again. In short, I would prefer to read completed fantasy series as I am currently envolved in about 6 unfinished series (waiting on releases). Maybe we could include author and name of series and order if needed....for example, I would recommend Farseer Trilogy be read before Liveship Traders as the two are in the same world and Liveship takes place after Farseer:

    Hobbs: Farseer Trilogy
    The Liveship Traders

JV Jones: The Book of Words

    Thanks for your help, PJ

    Fencer Trilogy - K J Parker
    Seer/Demon/Warrior Trilogy - Chris Bunch
    Nightrunner Trilogy - Lynn Flewwelling
Book of Worlds Trilogy - J V Jones
Dragon Prince and Dragon Star Trilogies - Melanie Rawn

    That will do me.

I find the Book of Swords and the Book of Lost Swords series by Fred Saberhagen to be a thoroughly enjoyable enjoyable read. I know that the Dragoncrown War Cycle by Mike Stackpole is not complete but the first 2 books A Dark Glory War and Fortress Draconis are great books for someone who enjoys military fantasy. I hope you like my suggestions.

Battleaxe is complete. It's the first 3 books. Wayfarer is actually the last three.

There's one more book left in this series, unpublished, no date set yet. Which annoys me, frankly, because I thought the series was complete when I started reading it.

Ah come on Allanon, throw me a bone here [IMG]

How about filling in some of the question marks for me. As Firecat said about Forsyth's series, I started Farland's Runelord and Haydon's Rhapsody series (although not on my list) thinking they were finished only to find out different! That really chapped my hide.

    Qin-

I hope you are talking about Estranghero, I haven't read a quarter of the series on the list. I am just trying to have the list to refer to when I need a new series. [IMG]

Firecat- So we should read the Battleaxe series first (weren't they published in the US with Wayfarer first?

<Cook, Glen - Chronicles of the Black Company - Complete one more to go>

Really? One more to go? I recently finished Soldiers Live, and then read an interview that explained that the glittering plain should have finished earlier but he convinced the publishers he couldn't cram it all in... looking forward to another one with the Old Man...

    <
Watt-Evans, Lawrence - Legends of Ethshar - ?haven't heard of this one yet>

I'm presuming this is the one being reissued by Wildside Press? The Misenchanted Sword? With A Single Spell? I was under the impression it was onging as I saw another Ethshar novel just recently...

<Kerr, Katherine - The Deverry Series - might be completed or not, depends on whether she'll get published as she's been kicked out of her publishing house(?)>

Certainly in the US her sales dropped markedly, and she is no longer on the Bantam Spectra list...

Well, we often talk about sells, popular authors, names but are there any real classification of popular fantasy authors?

I know that 30-40,000 copies is pretty much a minimum to stay with a major US publisher, but when you consider the size of the country and the potential reading audience that isn't so huge... the big boys, well they sell well in excess of that figure.

Deborah Chester's "Sword, Ring and Chalice" is complete and a very enjoyable read.
"Witches of Eileanan" by Kate Forsyth is incomplete.
Ann Marston's "Runeblade" and "Sword in Exile" are complete.
Rebecca Bradley's "Gil" series is complete and very recommendable.
Elizabeth Haydon's Rhapsody series is complete.
Rwan/Roberson/Elliot "The Golden Keys" series is complete and very good.
Julian May's "Saga of the Exiles" is complete, one of my favorite.
Jennifer Roberson's Cheysuli series is complete.
Anne Bishop's Black Jewel series is complete.
Chaz Brenchley's Outremer series is complete.
    C. S. Friedman'y Coldfire series is complete.
Mary Stewart's Merlin series is complete.

I haven't seen it up here yet:

    The Deathgate Cycle--Weis and Hickman

(Or is this more SF? It seemed like both, to me)

Heh. More Sara Douglass confusion (I HATE that the US publisher mucked around with the titles in such a horrible way, because now everyone is very confused).

The Battleaxe series comes first. The first book of the Battleaxe series (entitled Battleaxe) was given the name 'The Wayfarer Redepmtion' in the U.S. Everywhere else, The Wayfarer Redemption refers to the SECOND trilogy. See the 'I was in the bookstore and those Sara Douglass books really confused me...' thread for the complete rundown of titles and order.

    Qin:
    and

    me:
That being said, I've only read... oh, around 40% to 50% of the books here. Mind, I've never actually finished reading the series, just one or two that I kept track on the Amazon afterwards. There are also some that haven't been mentioned here but I can't remember at the moment.

    Kane:
Hah! You picked up on a mistake I realized I made after writing the post! [IMG] I was really thinking of "Soldiers Live" when I said 1 more, since I've only reached "Water Sleeps" in the series. So I don't really know if there's more out there, Kane. [IMG]

Well, I've actually checked out Watt-Evan's site and seen this mentioned. However, a check with Amazon didn't give any reviews so I never really saw what it was all about.

    and

    Ntschotschi:
Yes, it was. However, I thought it was just one-off from the 3 ladies?

In Germany it isn't. There are three books. As I read it in German I didn't realize. [IMG]

One more good complete series: Holly Lisle "Secret Texts"
