I'm trying to find out if anyone remembers a SF book that I read 15 or 20 years ago, about a sun that becomes aware that it's intelligent and it ponders it's existents and finely reaches out to other suns and communicates with them. Please post a reply if anyone can Help.

Sounds like the last third of Starmaker by Olaf stapleton, maybe?

All living creatures, including suns, join together in mystical union and achieve an instant of perceiving God?

No, I think it is more recent. I remember reading the same book, but thought it was slightly older than that, but not from the Stapleton era. Just can't remember the name.

Didn't Clarke do a short based on that concept?

This book was not a short story or part of a series. Also it doesn't sound like the Starmaker by Olaf stapleton either.
