Kat mentioned creating one of these, so I thought I'd take the initiative and create it myself.

    Ground rules:
    1. Positive comments only. Be constructively criticising if you wish, stating any (minor) changes which would improve the cover for you, but no negative comments nor dismissals.
    2. No images larger than 600 pixels in height. If you don't know how to resize an image, then just ask.
    3. Please try not to hotlink from other sites if you can. That means rather than use links from Amazon, artist websites, Barnes & Noble, etc., you save the image to your computer, and use an image site such as Imageshack to upload it.
    4. If the image has no visible attribution (Title, author, artist, etc), then please post at least the title and author of the book.
    5. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

    Let's get posting!

Three of the better ones I've seen recently:

I think the Marque and Reprisal one is pretty good because, in what seems to be a rare event these days, it depicts an actual scene in the book.

I really like the artist, Stephen Martiniere. I believe he's done the artwork for all of McDonald's work to date.

    Gods, I love sci-fi art.

Mark, you're more of an expert than me. Let's get some Chris Foss in here ;)

They make me think of a time I didn't exist to experience. Sci-fi must have been something different then.

Not Chris Foss, but Tim White, for the UK paperback edition of The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, early 1980's:

The detail on this is quite something:

If you like Stephan, think you'll like Sparth (nicolas bouvier) who seems similar to me.

Some of his examples on his website are very similar in composition to me.

Guys, please don't link from non-image hosting sites. I've seen some from Goodreads, some from Amazon, and one from Jon Sullivan's own site. These topics can be a little wonky when it comes to copyright infringement, so we don't need to make it any worse by piggy-backing from other people's sites. Save it to your PC, upload it to imageshack/PhotoBucket and post it that way. Those sites exist for it.

I like this cover ALOT, it has some very important elements for selling the book:
    1. The image is very suggestive of what's inside - OOH A human-looking skeleton on the moon!
    2. Quote from Isaac Asimov comparing the book to none other than Arthur C. Clarke
    3. Tagline that is very inviting: A Novel about Man's Place in the Universe
    [IMG]

I've got the omnibus which contains this book. The cover is not quite as good as the above, though effective enough with the spaceship in the corner and the all-important words that would entice Omnibus-fan PeterWilliam "THREE NOVELS FOR THE PRICE OF ONE":
