I may be moving back to America from England soon, and before I go I would like to visit sites on the "Tolkien Trail" which I understand is up near Birmingham when Tolkien was from. Apparently there are some old mills or something that were the inspiration behind the "two towers", a small village that inspired Hobbiton, a forest that inspired the Old Forest, and well, I'm not really sure what else.

Has anyone visited places on the Tolkien Trail or have any recommendations? I guess I might try one of the Tolkien society sites?

One place that is not listed on that link but that is worth checking out is the village of Brill, a little bit down from Oxford. You'll find it on any map.

Its a village on a hill and has a windmill right there as you enter. Very quirky little place.

It is said to be the inspiration for Bree (and the other towns on the hill) hence the similar name.
