Probably get better responses by having a top ten movie thread, runslikeariver. It's your call; it's your thread.

    1.) Braveheart

it is hard to pick just one. a lot depends on my mood at any given moment, right now I'd say Casablanca.

I would agree with you on that one, JimF, it does depend on the day and the mood but Casablanca has been high on my favourite all time films for years.

When someone says "X is my favourite film of all time" and it's a piece of **** that by any criterion wouldn't be worth saving from a fire, I do sometimes wonder just how many films the person has actually watched in their lifetime.

couldn't trim down my list - I'll need a top 100, and still feel I've let some out.

I guess today my top pick would be The Ballad of Cable Hogue by Sam Peckinpah.

    American History X.

One of the most powerful movies I've ever seen.

This was actually a bot-created thread that River responded too, then the bot entry was deleted.:p

One movie is too hard; would need at least one for each genre. Alien would be up there for me.

Great choice, along with Blade Runner also mentioned above.

My number one veers between The Third Man and The Maltese Falcon (the 1941 version with Humphrey Bogart). With a splash of Casablanca, Blade Runner, Brazil and 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I don't know, all three are good but Fellowship was definitely the best to me. It felt closest to the book, somehow. It was just right.
