Yep - it's cleavage - and I guess it's Arkan in the background there - and I suppose the Ice Palace, which as you Riddle freaks know really looks like the side of a mountain. There was that strange creature on The Naming that I have to presume is a wer :) - Still, in reality those Candlewick covers look a lot more lush than they do on screen - really very impressive - so although I'm not sure what they have to do with the books, I actually quite like them.

I prefer the UK covers myself, I think Patrick has done a sterling job - and nobody complains taht the characters don't look like they imagine!

The UK covers are fantastic, I think. I can never really figure out the Australian ones, though I'll admit they're quite striking. But still, I think the design of the UK ones are great, with the illustration of the US Naming coming in a close second.
The US Riddle cover is...interesting. I don't DISlike it, but I agree that it's just so unlike how I imagined either of them. I like the picture itself in general, but as a portrayal of Maerad and Arkan it doesn't really work for me. Also, The Cleavage is a bit much for me.

I love the UK covers and although I know you shouldn't judge books by ther cover but the cover definately partly attracted me to the pellinor books, and The Crow cover looks just as appealing!

I have always been curious about how publishers decide what will be on the cover of a book. Sometimes i wonder if the artist has even read the material before they draw the picture.

That was a very funny bit about the cleavage.. isn't it supposed to be her fingers that get exposed to frostbite? (teehee)

BTW If that's Arkan, all of my visions of him have been utterly deflated...:(

Arkan looks v. different to what i imagined him. so i guess you can't really rely on book covers :D

i like Maerad's sword though! :D

Jane, it's different to how I imagined him too (I can't imagine who else that figure is supposed to be). He looks a bit like a biker to me in that picture. I imagine someone altogether rather more beautiful - after all, he's supposed to be totally charismatic as well as ambiguously sinister...

i am so glad you think so Alison,

that guy looks like a character from a video game. I always pictured him as darn right beautiful, almost delicate. I think you did such a great job of conveying how disconcerting of a character he is -- the contrast between his external beauty and his icy personality especially as he is so connected to the mountain itself. (o dear, i have definitely been thinking too much about these books :p ) I love ambiguously sinister men, they make life soo interesting

(though on second thought I can't say as I've met too many ambiguously sinister people in real life, I mean there's Dick Cheney and all, but he is definitely not the type of person we are talking about here)

don't like it don't like it don't like it!sorry i know I'm sounding stroppy but I just love covers where they allow you to make up your own image of the Characters-
-Maerads hair isn't right
-she looks too...nah..I'll offend
-theres no love/passion in her face-just..urgh.
-Wouldn't her clothing be a little more substantial/practical?WHITE FUR trimmed cuffs?? sorry..I'll stop ranting in a spoilt manner now.sorry:o
UK COVERS FOREVER!:D

yeeeaaah, he desn't quite look that way...I think it's Moby in disguise :D plus his hair is all mousy :D

Maerad looks very good, her face I mean, and her demeaner (at least I think so) I agree, the cleavage is alittle outlandish :D :p

of course the book cover didn't come out exactly right, how can it? They never do  but I have the feeling that the artist tried his/her best. It's pretty darn good...and it matches the Naming cover.
