i think the object on the front of the uk covers has to be an inaniamte object so i think it might be the turbansk brooch but i might be wrong...

Hi Becks - I gather "Patience" isn't your middle name? ;)

I don't feel I can tell - not until it's finalised. But it will be as handsome as the other books!

You're not far off, Becks! But I'll keep it secret until I know for sure that's what they're doing - they might change their minds, you never know. (It's very nice orange, btw, not a glarey shade).

I really don't like ANY of the book designs apart from the Uk red and blue one.
They look reallly mysterious...
I don't like to have characters on fanatsy book covers, because they don't leave much for imagination...does anyone here agree with me? :p

bai_xu -

That seems to be the consensus of opinion, judging from the responses I received in the thread over in my forum on Cover Art and Computer Graphics. I tend to agree with it too. The interesting thing is that there seems to be a strong desire, from a marketing standpoint (in the U.S. at least), to have people on covers. Presumably they must sell better, or they wouldn't do it. My publisher re-released some of their older titles, moving from an abstract image to one with people, and all of those books began selling better than with the original covers; so there must be something to it...

Yes, I suppose you've got a point there, but the thing is, with fantasy books, you've GOT to make everything look forbidding and mysterious. If you stick people on covers, it sort of reminds you of typical teen books...well, that's what I think anyway...
