Steven Erikson - Reading Order?

Ok, so I know that this is the official reading order, or Order A:

1. Gardens of the Moon
2. Deadhouse Gates
3. Memories of Ice
4. House of Chains
5. Midnight Tides

but I just finished book 2, and realized something about how it switches back and forth between continents. For people who have read further, do you think it's possible to just read it like this, Order B?:
1. Gardens of the Moon
2. Memories of Ice
3. Deadhouse Gates
4. House of Chains

or even Order C:
1. Deadhouse Gates
2. House of Chains
3. Gardens of the Moon
4. Memories of Ice

I've also noticed that none of the books say anything like "Book 1 of..", "Book 2 of.." etc.

Your order B can be attempted but I am doubtful about order C. The whole Paran family prespective, the bridgeburner sidestory, crokus/apsalar angle might cause a few problems.

Order B might work, although another order, which some people seem to do, is just like order A, though Deadhouse Gates is read first, and Gardens is second

I definately don't reccomend either. Read them the way Erikson planned it or you could find yourself very (ie more than you would be) confused.

I wholeheartedly agree... it's hard to enough to follow when you start reading as it is.

Good points.. I forgot about the small connections, like Crokus/Apsalar, and the Paran family.

I'm sticking with the correct order, but I have to say it's hard to finish one book, knowing you have to read over 1000 pages before you can get back to their continent!

I've had no difficulty following and enjoying any of these books in the proper order. I love the fact it jumps back and forth as it breaks up the monotony. And encourage they be read in publication order as there are spoilers, things happen to people or places in GotM that are spoken of or written about in DG, etc, etc.

Alternate reading orders would probably work great in a re-reading situation, where you want to try to get every detail out of the books that you might have missed first time around. I know I've thought about doing that with MBOTF more than once. After I re-read GOTM I considered going straight on to MOI so that I'd keep each characters situation fresh in my mind. I do think there's a reason Erikson wrote them in that order, though. Expecially for first timers
