I KNOW!!! BTL, I wish she would have told us... Although probably a lot of people wpuld have been disappointed, since we all have such different visions of Cadvan....

Wow, it's been awhile since I've last popped onto this forum (11th Dec 2007 to be exact!). I've just finished my HSC and I went back to reading the Pellinor series. I've just finished re-reading The Gift and it's again, such a marvellous book! And I absolutely adore Cadvan, as many of you do too.

I also must commend Alison on her great (great would be an understatement) writing skills. I love reading well written literature (to me, you are among the ranks of Angela Carter, F. Scott Fitzgerald and the like). Keep on writing! I am yet to read The Singing - we'll see what 2010 holds for me! :D

I realize this thread has long been abandoned, but finding no other outlet for my initial dismay and eventual determination, I turn here for liberation from this burning question.

Alison gives us the Truename of each of the four major characters except Cadvan. This is a source of GREAT frustration on my part. I have scoured the internet in search of the final Truename but it is, to my knowledge, never given although sought by many.

My need to know Cadvan’s truename was so great I read the books at least five times to make sure I hadn't missed it. However, in so doing, I found one for him with which I was satisfied. You may read it here if you choose http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6445063/1/

I do not claim to be a writer, and certainly Alison could have written it infinitely more lovely than I. However, she didn't and so here we are. While the writting may leave much to be desired, the idea is sound and in complete harmony with the canon of Alison's text. I post this here with the hope that perhaps there is someone out there like me who would like this answer too.

And Alison, if you still read these posts, I challenge you to give us a Truename for Cadvan that's better than mine.;)

Hi Dawnflower - by George, you're right! It's one of those mysteries, like Maerad's Elemental name, that I never quite came around to finding. Your stab really is very good! And a lovely fiction, too.
