Cadvan's Thread (spoilers for The Riddle)

sorry to add to this already overflowing forum...but hey! Discovered The Gift 3 days ago, ran out to buy The Riddle yesterday, and stayed up all night reading it and am now officially obsessed! I know exactly what everyone means when they warn people not to rush through; I knew The Crow wasn't coming out until next year, but I just couldn't help myself!

ahem! anyway...so Cadvan? Predictably, I am a Maerad/Cadvan shipper, but (shock horror!) I can also accept the possibility that they won't actually have a romantic relationship. But I just thought I'd mention something I remember reading earlier on one of these threads: something about the fact that he's her teacher etc, and therefore, they couldn't possibly be lovers in future? This is probably a little off-topic, but in writing a dissertation on Jane Austen (i warned you!) I came across a book called "Jane Austen On Love" and it has a magnificent chapter explaining how lovers teaching one another (both literally and sort of you know, emotionally) actually creates a deeper bond. It just struck me at the time, because I also have a bit of a Numair/Daine obsession from the Tamora Pierce books! Although Ihave to say, Ms Croggon's writing is one of the most superior styles I've had the privilege to come across! Thank you! And thanks also for your willingness to share your thoughts with us lowly mortals.

Oh dear, I've come across as quite formal. Rest assured, I'm actually quite a quirky person, pedantic at times, but quirky!

Alison I just noticed that in your background on Cadvan you said he was the eldest but in The Gift Cadvan told Maerad he was the youngest child??

Damn, did I? (ahem) - I mean, are the records contradictory? Actually, it's useful when people point out things like this - I make notes and hope (as I did when I saw what is now a small mistake in the appendices for The Gift) that one day there will be a DEFINITIVE edition in which there are no mistakes at all...

And welcome, Silverphoenix! Thanks very much!

Cadvan is very shexi, in my opinion. Very mysterious, dark, handsome.. *swoons* He seems like a bit of a player though..
Fingers crossed Maerad and Cadvan get together! 100% rooting for yoo. ;)

By the way Alison is there any chance if we could hear more of Cadvan's past? Tis etremely intersting and then maybe the girls could add some more things to their already very large list and maybe when we have enough for lets say a chapter for a book i could turn it into a pdf file and send it to your site... it could be a new book "Edil-Amarandh a history volume 1 - Cadvan of Lirigon" :D
