Let's try this on for size. One game per genre, please (it could get looooong). If I've missed any genres just smack 'em up on your post.

1)Beat 'em up-Battletoads-Double Dragon (Snes)
2)2-D Shooter-Contra 3 (Snes) (Hard!)
3)First-person Shooter-Timesplitter's 2 (Ps2) (3's almost here :D )
4)Third-person Shooter-Killswitch (Ps2)
5)RPG-Baldur's Gate (PC) (Still haven't played 2 for some reason)
6)Real-time Strategy-Age of Empires II (PC)
7)Turn-based Strategy-Heroes of Might and Magic III (PC)
8)2-D Racer-Rock and Roll Racing (Snes)
9)3-D Racer-Don't have one
10)Third-person Action/Strategy-GTA: SA (Ps2) (this could go anywhere)
11)Puzzle-Katamari Damacy (Ps2) (A Ha Ha Ha Ha)
12)Platform-Beyond Good and Evil (Ps2)
13)Survival Horror-Manhunt (Ps2) (scared me, but that's not hard to do :) )
14)2-D Fighter-Mortal Kombat 3 (Snes)
15)3-D Fighter-Soul Calibur 2 (Ps2) (Ivy rules; dominate me, please!)
16)2-D Sport-Don't have one
17)3-D Sport-Don't have one

1)Beat 'em up- Viewtiful Joe (gamecube)

2)2-D Shooter- The SNES star wars games

3)First-person Shooter- Goldeneye (N-64)

4)Third-person Shooter- Mafia

5)RPG- toss-up between Suikoden 2 and Crono Trigger AND Final Fantasy IV

6)Real-time Strategy- Rome: Total War

7)Turn-based Strategy- Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic

8)2-D Racer-Rock and Roll Racing (Snes), have to agree with this one

9)3-D Racer- Gran Turismo series

10)Third-person Action/Strategy- Ocarina of Time

13)Survival Horror- Resident Evil 4

14)2-D Fighter-Street Fighter 3, 2nd Impact

15)3-D Fighter-Soul Calibur 2 (Ps2) (Ivy rules; dominate me, please!)

Beat em up- God of War (Ps2)

2-D Shooter-mega man 2 (nes)

First-person Shooter-Perfect Dark (n64)

Third-person Shooter-undecided

RPG-ff 6 and ff 8

Real-time Strategy- still love warcraft 2 and starcraft

2-D Racer- old arcade game (cant remember the name..red car, blue, green..anyone?)

3-D Racer- crash team racing (ps1)

Third-person Action/Strategy-Pop warrior within

Puzzle-Katamari Damacy and Tetris

Platform-This could be PoP again or Mario 64

Survival Horror-there all kinda fun (RE 4 is lookin good though)

2-D Fighter-street fighter 2, the first one!

3-D Fighter-2-D are better

2-D Sport- NHLPA 92 or 93 (cant remember which I liked better)

3-D Sport-Tiger Woods 2005 (golfs a sport right?)

Zelda games are awesome too..they need props!

Scrolling beat em up = Streets of Rage 2 (classic)
2-D Shooter = Gunstar Heroes
First-person Shooter = Counter Strike (does it count?) if not Half-Life 2
Third-person Shooter = MGS 1 (true classic)
RPG = FF VII
Real-time Strategy = Age of Empires 2
2-D Racer = Road Rash (?)
3-D Racer = Burnout 3 (classic)
Third-person Action/Strategy = POP
Puzzle = Solitaire (I mean come on :D)
Platform = Sonic 1 (classic)
Survival Horror = RE1 (originality factor)
2-D Fighter = Marvel Superheroes (a dream come true)
3-D Fighter = Tekken 3
2-D Sport = NHLPA 92 (superb call Lowrent, for me it was always either NHLPA 92 or Madden 93)
3-D Sport = Fight Night 2 (originality with extras)

Somehow GTA didn't get into my list and that can't be right - can it?

9)3-D Racer - one of the GTs
10)Third-person Action/Strategy - Samurrai Warriors
11)Puzzle - none
12)Platform - don't understand the genre.....
13)Survival Horror - Manhunt or Fatal Frame
14)2-D Fighter - not sure
15)3-D Fighter - Naruto
16)2-D Sport - not sure....
17)3-D Sport - Pro Evolution Soccer 4

RPG - Planescape: Torment (PC) for the single-player; Neverwinter Nights (PC) for the multiplaye component
Real-time Strategy - Starcraft (PC)
Turn-based Strategy - Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Restoration of Erathia (PC) (TIE) X-Com: UFO Defense/UFO: Enemy Unknown (PC)

12)Platform - don't understand the genre.....

Stuff like Crash Bandicoot and Rachet and Clank where you're basically running around smiting enemies and collecting stuff. Lighthearted, puzzle-solving usually targeted for kids.
