Would anyone who has written any Pellinor related music using Sibelius be willing to put it on the site or a link to it so that anyone who has sibelius could hear it, cos I would love to (I have Sibelius). I also write music and I might(gulp!) have a go myself and I would be really interested to see how different people imagine what the music of Edil-Amarandh sounds like!Thanks-Hattie:)

Hiya all,
Your homemade bardic music mix idea has captured my interest. I record music all the time (i play in a pro big band and also in a few rock/jazz/pop type bands on bass and piano for fun) Also i compose some basic film score music...so if you have specific plans id be happy to help out with technical stuff?
It depends what you're planning Loiren - instrumentation? score? synthesised sound? I would start by brainstorming what END PRODUCT you want. Do you want something where everyone here gets to contribute a little bit? If so, perhaps you could assign "production roles"? EG of roles; 'producer' who organises everyone, 'lyrics writer' for someone who likes writing poetry and fancys attempting a bardic style, maybe a 'composer' for writing a draft score, and then a group of 'recording artists' to sort out the technical recording? Just a random idea for getting a group project a bit more 'official'.
If you're seriously interested in doing some music comp for fun I can reccomend a few excellent general purpose softwares.
If anyone's interested in more info, or perhaps some help with getting your hands on a copy PM me.;)
Well, this whole band idea started off with Andomian saying that she had written some music and I thought it would be nice if we could all contribute towards a finished piece, so yeah, anyone wanting to help, whether it be with composing, playing, organising everything or whatever would be welcome (if that's okay with Andomian, since it's her music etc.). Also if other people have composed music for however many instruments and wanted to turn it into a proper piece, then that could be done too. Obviously it would need more planning because if we are going to compose music for a certain amount of players, then we need to know how many for, what grades everyone plays at etc and also what tempo people are comfortable playing at (we can't rehearse together, so would need to record the music individually, then mix it together - is that possible???). It would probably be ideal if only a few people did the actual composing because we need to know that all of the parts fit together, as well as with what the original artist wanted from the piece. Saying that, it could be composed by many different people, but that would be tricky.
Assigning different jobs to everyone seems like a good idea, but we'd have to ask for volunteers, so anyone who wants to compose the music, sort out technical stuff would have to let us know. I thought the original idea was to write music for the lyrics / poetry in Alison's books, but people could develop their own based on what we know from the books.
How much does software like Silbelius cost? I've got some composition software on my computer, but it's not all that good. I'm not all that great at composing myself and would also struggle with a lack of time at the moment, which is another thing to take into consideration. Perhaps something like this would be better attempted over the holidays? Or just over a long period of time? Also, what kind of equipment would I need to record myself playing and then send the recording to someone (or am I just best to go to a local recording studio?). Would you be willing to compose something Draoi? It seems that if we can find out how many people want to join in on this band and get the composing started, it would be good. What do you think? Any other issues need raising?

Must be quick but I suggest you go on youtube and search 'era the mass', or 'era ameno' 'era divano'
It is the most amazing peice of music. I have never found someone else who has heard of era.
Got to go!

Sibelius student costs around £100 in England I think, but u r school may have it, cos mine does(if you fancy hanging around in the music block 2 use it that is....). There are other programs as well, though sibelius is prob. the best. I love this whole composing music for the books idea, Hattie says-FULL STREAM AHEAD!!!!:D

Well easy answer for me... full steam ahead. I am happy to do whatever job needs doing from composing, to recording, or even helping out with general SOFTWARE issues (*wink wink nudge nudge people should really read sneaky inserts in messages more carefully*).
Sounds like Loiren is the best choice for Producer (aka organising leadery person). Everyone cool with that (incl you Loiren)?
And if Andomian has some pre-composed music we should have a listen to that, and also ask her if shes cool with using it etc etc.
In the mean time i think that it would be good to lock in some jobs - so nominations open. Another thing we could do is to lock in a STYLE of music that we want to make. I'm afraid Ive come in late to this thread so Im not sure what you've settled on in terms of bardic style. Personally if i were composing a movie sound track for the book I would be thinking celtic cross folk.
So... a list of stuff to be done
If you want to be involved, nominate yourself for a production role.
Post up any ideas you have on STYLE of music with examples if possible
List your talents team! Write what instrument you play, how well, what tempo, etc etc Also please if you have any related skills such as sound engineering or editing that would be helpfull to make it known now. hehe cover art for the album anyone?:p
Oh yeah last thing... someone shoot me if I get all controlly... comes from being male and 25.:p

Thought I'd start with the nominations so people get what i meant...
Quals: I am Luke, 25 and a semi-pro musician. I do trumpet, piano, bass guitar, and voice all fairly competantly. I compose soundtracks and arrange music in my spare time.
Access to gear:If we desperately need a particular instrument I can ask a friend to record it, being in the industry and all. Also I have sound studio access for work so the recording thing is not too hard for me.
Availability: My full time job is making films so sometimes I can be on here every night for a week, then other times I dont get free time day or night for months. I have no heavy shoots for the next 6-8 weeks so now would be a good time to start for me.
Style Suggestion: Celtic cross folk - leaves it open for any sort of instrument combination plus i think its kinda bardic as I imagin it. Anyone heared Loreena Mckinnit sing? Listen to a sample at the link below. (a fave of mine is "the highway man" on her album "book of secrets" so check that out)http://www.quinlanroad.com/explorethemusic/bookofsecrets.asp?id=102
Ok hope everyone gets the general drift of where im going with all this... and hope everyone agrees to the general course of action too! If not... say now!

Well, I'm Rhi and I'm 12
I play cello and piano but I can NOT sing.
I have a school cello and a keyboard
I am in school so I am pretty much always free
and I agress that a Celtic/folk would be best. (that music was beautiful)
