Eva (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=TN4UT8mmxZw), by Nightwish, has lyrics that sound like Maerad in parts:

6:30 winter morn
Snow keeps falling, silent dawn
A rose by any other name
Eva leaves her Swanbrook home
A kindest heart which always made
Me ashamed of my own
She walks alone but not without her name

Eva flies away
Dreams the world far away
In this cruel children's game
There's no friend to call her name
Eva sails away
Dreams the world far away
The Good in her will be my sunflower field

Mocked by man to depths of shame
Little girl with life ahead
For a memory of one kind word
She would stay among the beasts
Time for one more daring dream
Before her escape, edenbeam
We kill with her own loving heart

Eva flies away
Dreams the world far away
In this cruel children's game
There's no friend to call her name
Eva sails away
Dreams the world far away
The Good in her will be my sunflower field

Some of it doesn't fit, but some really does.

I love this song.

Yeah, that does remind me of Maerad!

Hmmm... yeah, when you think about the lyrics, it is like Maerad! :D Pictures Of You by The Last Goodnight seems Maerad- and Cadvan-ish, to me at least. Not that I like the pairing. Maerad is with Dernhil or nobody at all! (Might have been said already since it's a popular song)

This is the clock upon the wall
This is the story of us all
This is the first sound of a newborn child,
Before he starts to crawl
This is the war that's never won
This is a soldier and his gun
This is the mother waiting by the phone,
Praying for her son

[Chorus]
Pictures of you, pictures of me
Hung upon your wall for the world to see
Pictures of you, pictures of me
Remind us all of what we used to be

There is a drug that cures it all
Blocked by the governmental wall
We are the scientists inside the lab,
Just waiting for the call
This earthquake weather has got me shaking inside
I'm high up and dry

[Chorus]

Confess to me, every secret moment
Every stolen promise you believed
Confess to me, all that lies between us
All that lies between you and me

We are the boxers in the ring
We are the bells that never sing
There is a title we can't win no matter
How hard we might swing

[Chorus 2]

Pictures of you, pictures of me
Hung upon your wall for the world to see
Pictures of you, pictures of me
Remind us all of what we could have been

[Chorus 2 Repeat]

You're not for M&C? Where did I put those pitchforks? :p

Those lyrics really fit though, so I forgive you. :D;)

Ahh! Pitchforks! Yeah... I've always been in denial about Dernhil, methinks he'd have been perfect for Maerad. (Just for those who haven't finished The Naming/Gift.)

And Truth Beneath The Rose (Within Temptation) is to me like Maerad during The Riddle. The song reminds me of the Crusades for some reason, and this historical fiction book I read in grade six...

Give me strength to face the truth
The doubt within my soul
No longer I can justify
The bloodshed in his name

Is it a sin to seek the truth, the truth beneath the rose?
Pray with me so I will find the gate to Heaven's door
I believed it would justify the means
It had a hold over me

Blinded to see
The cruelty of the beast
Here is the darkest side of me
(Forgive me my sins)

The veil of my dreams
Deceived all I have seen
Forgive me for what I have been
(Forgive me my sins)

Pray for me 'cause I have lost my faith in holy wars
This paradise denied to me 'cause I can take no more

Has darkness taken over me
Consumed my mortal soul?
All my virtues sacrificed
Can Heaven be so cruel?

I believed it would justify my means
It had a hold over me
(Forgive me my sins)

Blinded to see
The cruelty of the beast
Here is the darkest side of me
(Forgive me my sins)

The veil of my dreams
Deceived all I have seen
Forgive me for what I have been
(Forgive me my sins)

I'm hoping, I'm praying
I won't get lost between two worlds
For all I see
The truth lies in between

Give me the strength to face the wrong that I have done
Now that I know
The darkest side of me

How can blood be your salvation
And justify the pain
That we have caused throughout the times

Will I learn what's truly sacred
Will I redeem my soul
Will truth set me free

Blinded to see
The cruelty of the beast
Here is the darkest side of me
(Forgive me my sins)

The veil of my dreams
Deceived all I have seen
Forgive me for what I have been
(Forgive me my sins)

I some of lyrics to Regina Spektor's "the call" could be pellinorish.

A Maerad/Cadvan bit:

It started out as a feeling
Which then grew into a hope
Which then turned into a quiet thought
Which then turned into a quiet word

And then that word grew louder and louder
Til it was a battle cry

And this part reminds me of Hem leaving for Turbansk with Saliman:

I'll come back
When you call me
No need to say goodbye
Just because everything's changing
Doesn't mean it's never
Been this way before

All you can do is try to know
Who your friends are
As you head off to the war

Or Here without you by 3 doors down: The lyrics work perfect for Cadvan/Ceredin, IMO.

A hundred days have made me older
Since the last time that I saw your pretty face
A thousand lies have made me colder
And I don't think I can look at this the same
But all the miles that separate
Disappear now when I'm dreaming of your face

I'm here without you baby
But you're still on my lonely mind
I think about you baby
And I dream about you all the time

I'm here without you baby
But you're still with me in my dreams
And tonight it's only you and me

lol well WT said the song was inspired by the DaVinci Code, and well the story of that also somewhat revolved around the crusades were because of the search for the holy grail... knights templar (that was that time right?), and stuff like that.

Maia, we have similar tastes in music lol
I was going to say Memories by WT
(for those of you who haven't read the Riddle)
but I thought it was more fitting for Maerad when she's alone and thinks Cadvan is dead

Ahh, The Call is an awesome song, Regina Spektor in general has a wonderful etheral voice. There is a really good version of The Call by a children´s choir somewhere on Youtube, and the version has fitting melodies that lift the song so well.
