"A Telling of Stars" in the UK

A very good friend of mine picked up her copy of "A Telling of Stars" at WorldCon in Toronto last year and raved about it for months. I waited for the UK release only to find it went limited availability on Amazon.co.uk almost immediately. :( Now all my purchasing options involve either extortionate third party-seller prices or international shipping. Does anyone know of anyway I can get a copy, and why the UK print run was so short? I loved the Martin Springett artwork. Is it going to be re-released?

I am still waiting for the copy I ordered from Amazon.com

Caitlin, you should set up a store on your website where people can buy directly from either you or your publisher, or at least have links to online sellers who carry the books. Then we could all choose which one makes the most sense.

An excellent idea - especially as I'm about to embark on the construction of a website. Finally.

Amazon.ca seems to be the quickest and easiest route to buying my books - though I'm not sure, in fact, how easy it is for people outside North America.

Duanawitch: would your UK friend happen to be Nic Clarke? (An off chance, I know, but I thought I'd ask!)

lol! :) Yes, it is Nic. We were at university together; in fact, she was/is my "academic mother" (its a strange St. Andrews tradition for 3rd year students to "adopt" new 1st years...and I'm her fortunate progeny). :) We bonded over shared passions for Guy Kay, beer and books. I was so jealous of her TorCon trip, but hopefully we'll be going to the WorldCon in Glasgow together this coming August. (Maybe I'll spot "A Telling..." there ;) ) Any chance you'll be attending?

...sadly! I have friends who'll be there, but there was just no way, financially and family-wise, that I'll be able to make the trip.

How lucky you are, indeed, to be Nic's "academic daughter"! It was wonderful to meet her here in Toronto - and wonderful to see the review she did of Telling for amazon.com, quite recently. You absolutely must tell her that I say thanks, and hello, and I hope to see her (and you!) at a con in the near future.

In the meantime, I'll contact my publicist at Penguin and find out what the party line is re: sending out books to international readers...

Well, I finally bit the bullet and made an international order for "A Telling...". :) It'll be coming surface mail from Amazon.ca, so I don't suppose I'll see it until June but at least its on its way.

Hi Caitlin,
Great interview you did with Duana over at FBS, really think I'll have to wait a few more months for the UK release (and the free postage :) )
All the best

Thanks for the interview feedback! I was really impressed with Duana's questions; as I told her, more than one of them kept me up at night, in the best possible way!

I remain a bit confused about the amazon.uk/us "publication dates" for my books. I know they just order them from amazon.ca, where they've been available for years/months already, so the dates for their availability in foreign markets seem a bit arbitrary. However, I'm glad they'll be orderable at all, outside Canada! Let me know when Telling gets to you, even if it's not 'til March 2006...

For what it's worth I didn't have any trouble getting a copy from amazon uk.
