short story (or novel) about time as currency

HI guys- If anyone could remember or guide me re short story or maybe even novel in which time is earned instead of money.. commodoties cost time.. rich people have lots of time poor people very little..if you run out of time you are terminated..ring any bells?

also another old short in which an the child of an vastly superior alien race makes the earth (or our universe can't remember which) as a sort of kid's game.
