Pellinor: General Discussion

Well, I was reading a book of poems today =] and i came across a little verse that reminded me of the Pellinor series :D
Here it is:

Harp of wild and dream-like strain,
when i touch thy strings,
why dost thou repeat again
long-forgotten things?

harp, in other, earlier days,
i could sing to thee;
and not one of all my lays
vexed my memory.

But now, if I awake a note
that gave me joy before,
sounds of sorrow from thee float,
changing evermore.

Yet, still steeped in memory's dyes,
they come sailing on,
darkening all my summer skies,
shutting out my sun--- Emily Bronte

Could I ask you, Alison, whether or not you get your inspiration (if any =] ) from sources such as this??

ps. I know the poem's about a harp but that's not the point ;)

I know this points probably already been made and i am kinda just stating the obvious but i was just reading the gift again and i realised that hem has three names too, or will have soon.

Yeh.
I think he has 4 though.
Hem, Cai, his bard name and his Elidhu name.

yes but does Hem really count?? after all it was only a name given to him at the orphanage...

actually now that u think about it i think that hem was a name given to him by the hulls who told the orphanage that was his name unless he was nameless and he just made up the name himself

I thought Hem was a Pilanel name.
Was he not named Hem after that Pilanel family rescued him from the Hulls' home? They accepted him because he looked Pilanel.

I thought that was how he got the name. Maybe that's why he doesn't want to discard the name, they were the first people to be kind to him after the sack of Pellinor, and his name is his only tie with them.

I could be wrong...

Same. That starts a line of thought about Hem having to choose his true destiny or name, Bard, Elidhu or Pilani-and maybe Maerad too...But I don't think his instability at the moment is very worrying, as it's not a matter of Truenames.
Just a theory! :D
